This review contributes to a better understanding of how the complex interaction between contexts and mechanisms can improve outcomes of clinical interest.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThis evidence synthesis has identified potentially important combinations of interventions to be considered in self-management programmes for adults with bronchiectasis.Collaborative partnership between patient and healthcare professionals should be considered to improve short-term self-efficacy.Targeting self-management programmes to increase short-term health-related quality of life and exercise capacity should consider the context of patient characteristics.
