No relevant elevations of brain natriuretic peptide or degradation products of the glycocalyx layer were observed when hypervolemia was induced during open abdominal hysterectomy performed with sevoflurane or propofol anesthesia. Plasma volume expansion from Ringer´s lactate was pronounced.
