High GPS and advanced N-category predicted a poor objective response to CRT in patients with T4b ESCC. Therefore, chemotherapeutic regimens with a higher efficacy are required. The indications for salvage surgery for responders should be carefully considered, with care taken to avoid complications. To confirm this, prospective randomized controlled studies are necessary.
