This study compares the histological and cytomorphological features of EMPD with high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, since the pathogenesis, precursor lesions, etiological associations, staging, clinical treatment, and prognosis differ substantially and may have a significant clinical impact on the patient's treatment.
