Iatrogenic fluid drainage techniques such as fluid-fluid exchange or external needle drainage during MGV (without fluid-air exchange) may result in retinal displacement. Allowing the retinal pigment epithelial pump to reabsorb the fluid naturally may reduce the risk of retinal displacement.
