In East Africa, the prevalence of postpartum depression among lactating women is high and rising, as per global postpartum depression estimates. Therefore, the primary focus should be on women's domestic violence prevention mechanisms. Existing national policies and development agendas must prioritize strategies for women's support and empowerment. Future research into the relationship between marriage and postpartum depression is required.
