• CT-guided core needle biopsy in head and neck tumors was a reliable and safe procedure. • The most common cause for an inconclusive biopsy result was a shortage of tissue collected during the biopsy. • During our study period of nearly 15 years, the radiation exposure of head and neck biopsies decreased.
