A high-value mentor, defined by exceptional commitment to both research productivity and mentoring, naturally attracts prospective mentees, who can demonstrate their interest by shadowing and completing delegated tasks. Once fully initiated, the mentee establishes expectations with the mentor, identifies their roles within the research team, and, over time, takes ownership of the mentor-mentee relationship and collaborates with near-peers.
