The rate of postoperative rectovaginal fistula (RVF) at the anastomotic line of rectal surgery has been reported in approximately 10% of women who undergo low anterior resection. An abdominal approach is recommended for the repair of a high rectovaginal fistula resulting from a coloanal anastomosis.
