Significance of body mass index for diagnosing sarcopenia is equivalent to slow gait speed in Japanese individuals with type 2 diabetes: Cross-sectional study using outpatient clinical data.

These results suggest that a BMI <24 kg/m2 among Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes could increase their risk of sarcopenia, the extent of which is equivalent to the risk for sarcopenia from slow gait speed in this study. Further prospective investigation, however, is required.
