If capsular waves are seen on slit lamp exam, a thorough inspection of IOL placement should be conducted, especially before treatment with Nd:YAG capsulotomy. Capsular waves result from anterior and posterior capsule contact with an anteriorly situated IOL. This finding is a potential indicator of at least part of an IOL positioned anterior to the anterior capsule.
