• Percutaneous image-guided liver tumor ablations have a high technical success rate, which is higher for microwave ablation than radiofrequency ablation. • Microwave ablation is the most frequent ablation method ahead of radiofrequency ablation. • The complication rate is generally low but is higher for microwave ablation than radiofrequency ablation.
