The study confirmed the role of P-gp efflux transporters in reduced intestinal linagliptin absorption. Co-administration of linagliptin with either carvedilol or atorvastatin can modulate the oral bioavailability of linagliptin. Bile salts can be employed as a formulation excipient for enhanced oral absorption of linagliptin.
