Von Willebrand Factor (VWF) binds Protein S (PS) in a shear-dependent manner, reducing the free PS pool and its anticoagulant activity.The PS/VWF complex forms under turbulent flow conditions, is stable in whole blood, and localizes to growing platelet thrombi.
