The derivatization of medium chain length monounsaturated methyl ketones with dimethyl disulfide allowed the determination of the corresponding double bond position via gas chromatography-electron ionization mass spectrometry. High resolution mass spectrometry is needed to differentiate possible double bond positions that yield isobaric fragment ions.
