A palladium precursor (H 2 PdCl 4 ) has been utilized as a novel structure-directing agent for controlling the morphology of ZIF-8. Using reverse micelles as nanoreactors, the Pd/ZIF-8 nanocomposite with a uniform size distribution is obtained. It is revealed that Pd(II) can selectively coordinate with the (100) plane of ZIF-8. As a result, the morphology of ZIF-8 is transformed from rhombic dodecahedral to cubic. After hydrogen treatment, the as-obtained Pd NPs/ZIF-8 nanocubes show efficient catalytic activity for nitrobenzene hydrogenation, which is higher than that of the commercially available Pd/C catalyst.
