We conclude that AF occurred frequently in sepsis patients and was also associated with a 6-fold increase in the risk of ischemic stroke within 2 years. Reliable interventions for identifying high-risk patients for ischemic stroke are still poorly characterized, and this study may serve as a basis for more extensive multicenter studies to identify patients at high risk for ischemic stroke in the aftermath of septic AF and develop precise interventions for preventing it.
