Fe 2 O 3 reduction to Fe with carbon requires a high temperature of 1200 °C in a blast furnace process. We have discovered a novel low-temperature reduction route from γ-phase Fe 2 O 3 to Fe with carbon. The reduction temperature was 430 °C, which is the lowest recorded up to now.
