Predictors of Neurological Disability at Hospital Discharge for Acyclovir-treated Pediatric Herpes Simplex Virus Encephalitis.

We identified significant predictors of neurological disability unaffected by postacyclovir treatment factors. Among patients with negative HSE polymerase chain reaction on day 14, 14 days of acyclovir treatment may be as effective as 21 days. Additional studies on the effects of acyclovir duration are needed.
