Our study showed that RSV is underreported among Danish adults using national register data. The study showed that the reliability of hospitalization data to estimate the burden of RSV among adults can be questioned and are sensitive to changes in practice over time, even with complete nationwide healthcare data. Studies based on healthcare data can be useful to observe trends and seasonality but to estimate the burden of RSV among adults, comprehensive prospective surveillance are recommended.
