Mechanochemical activation and oxidation of U(IV)O 2 .

Mechanochemical impact induces oxidation of U(IV)O 2 in presence of alkali metal peroxides Li 2 O 2 and Na 2 O 2 during liquid-assisted grinding, resulting in respective alkali U(VI) triperoxide phases ( e.g. Na 4 [UO 2 (O 2 ) 3 ]·9H 2 O), based on powder X-ray diffraction analysis, solid- and solution-phase vibrational spectroscopy.
