Increases in SE-Bic with hemodialysis, depend on the bicarbonate gradient, session time and nPNA. Lower D-Bic reduces post-hemodialysis alkalosis but increases pre-hemodialysis acidosis and may initially have adverse effects on weight and normalized protein nitrogen accumulation.
