Selective monooxygenation of diphosphenes with molecular oxygen.

The O 2 splitting mediated by the bulky Rind-based diphosphenes resulted in the clean formation of the mixed-valent diphosphorus compounds, diphosphene oxides, with P 2 O moieties. Their structural features and electronic properties have been clearly characterized by experimental and theoretical methods.
