Inhibition of mitochondrial activity could significantly attenuate atherosclerosis possibly by modulating CD36-mediated macrophage foam cell formation and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway-associated VSMC activation. Targeting mitochondrial activity might be the potential therapeutic strategy for atherosclerosis.
