A novel Zr-added trimer, [H 2 N(CH 3 ) 2 ] 10 H 14 [(Zr 2 P 2 W 16 O 61 ) 3 ]·7H 2 O (1), has been made under hydrothermal conditions, and contains the highest number of Zr centers in known Dawson-type poly(POM)s. A remarkable feature of this study is the first discovery of a new type of divacant [α-5,10-P 2 W 16 O 60 ] 14- fragment, which assembles with Zr 4+ ions to form a cyclic trimer. Furthermore, 1 as a heterogeneous catalyst exhibits high activity for the selective oxidative degradation of a sulfur mustard simulant CEES.
