Our findings indicated that pain in our ALS cohorts was insufficiently treated and interfered with patients' mood and enjoyment of life. Most notably, we found that ALS patients with a DN4 score⩾4 may have a longer disease duration and a higher PSI and PII score than ALS patients reporting nociceptive pain, which has never been reported, strongly deserving further validation.
