Prevalence of human herpesvirus in plasma and saliva of cirrhotic patients: A pilot study.

The results show that the presence of EBV in the saliva of cirrhotic patients was correlated with their circulating immune status. It may be possible that the immune dysfunction displayed by the cirrhotic patients plays a role in the shedding of EBV into saliva.
