An MRI-responsive agent that spontaneously self-assembles to a large supramolecular structure under physiological conditions was designed. The obtained assembly provides an extended time window for in vivo studies, as demonstrated for a fluorine-19 probe constructed to sense Zn 2+ with 19 F-iCEST MRI, in the future.
