Many residency programs have developed residents-as-teachers (RAT) programs to provide training for residents to learn teaching skills, but few programs are designed based upon an underlying conceptual framework or demonstrate outcomes. In 2015, our residency program implemented a new RAT elective based on Kolb's experiential learning cycle. After completion of the elective, residents reported improved skills in topics that associated didactic learning with active experimentation. Curricular changes were incorporated based on feedback from residents to course directors about each session, and content was tailored to the residents' individualized learning goals.
