A 20-year-old primigravida (19 weeks of gestation) presented with dull pain in the right upper quadrant for 2 weeks. She had no history of jaundice, features of hepatic decompensation, constitutional symptoms or use of oral contraceptives. An ultrasound examination revealed a heteroechoic, solid mass in the right lobe of liver (7cm x 8cm) without any evidence of cirrhosis. Liver function tests were normal, and tests for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV were non-reactive. Serum alpha-fetoprotein was 99 ng/ml (<55 ng/ml at 19 weeks of gestation).
