Idiopathic OAB and idiopathic urinary retention are heterogenous conditions with multiple potential underlying phenotypes. Tailoring stimulation parameters to the needs of each individual according to phenotype could optimize outcomes. Assessing psychological comorbidity may improve patient selection. Areas for further research are proposed.
