Inflammatory disease has been associated with the development and coexistence of multiple chronic non-communicable diseases that have a higher incidence after 65 years of age. The involvement of adaptive immunity in the pathogenesis of IPF has been described as an imbalance in the Th1/Th2 lymphocyte response. Further studies are required to identify additional markers of immunosenescence that correlate with IPF.
