A rupture of the insertion of the pectoralis major muscle must also be considered in amateur athletes with a typical history. The characteristic clinical symptoms described in the literature mostly refer to competitive athletes and bodybuilders, but these injuries can also be diagnosed in amateur athletes with lower muscle mass by subtle clinical examination. Nevertheless, there is a considerable risk of underestimating the extent of the injury. In case of doubt, surgical exploration should be performed promptly in amateur athletes. Surgical refixation of the humeral rupture of the pectoralis major muscle is the gold standard and should not be reserved to high-performance athletes.
