They addressed an issue of confounding factors (obesity and use of statin) which may exist in our study. We agree that obesity and statin use may be influential factors for the recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with chronic hepatitis B. However, the condition necessary to be a confounding factor is that it should be distributed unequally between the groups being compared.
