Low-chlorinated fullerenes, dimeric (C 60 Cl 5 ) 2 and one-dimensional, polymeric (C 60 Cl 4 ) ∞ , were obtained by high-temperature (270 °C) chlorination of C 60 with a SbCl 5 /SbCl 3 mixture, as revealed by X-ray crystallography. The compounds were characterized by IR and Raman spectroscopy and theoretical calculations. This is the first observation of a fullerene polymer with single C-C bonding and neutral building blocks.
