Bimetallic Ru-Ir/Rh complexes with the Ru-based metalloligand cis -(bpy) 2 Ru(PPh 2 ) 2 (RuP 2 ) serve as catalysts for the selective reduction of allyl alcohol to propylene, employing H 2 gas or an electrochemical setup. Metal-metal bonded key π-allyl intermediates [(RuP 2 )M(η 3 -C 3 H 5 )] 2+ (M = Ir, Rh) are identified, advancing the understanding of the catalytic processes.
