Targeted radionuclide therapy using Auger electrons is a promising strategy in cancer treatment. A DNA-binding Hoechst-tagged radioiodinated BODIPY derivative ([ 125 I]BH) has been prepared as an Auger therapeutic agent. [ 125 I]BH showed high accumulation in the nucleus of HeLa cells and cytotoxicity caused by DNA double-strand breaks.
