Familial co-aggregation of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and cancer - a Swedish population-based study.

We found little evidence of shared familial susceptibility as a major pathological mechanism contributing to the co-occurrence of IIM and cancer overall. There could be subsets of patients and cancer types where familial factors including genetics and shared environments is of more importance, but these findings need replication.
