Metal-free hydride stabilized boron nanosheets (H-BNS) were prepared in an aqueous medium without using noble metal growth substrates via sonochemistry. The reducing ability of H-BNS was demonstrated with Au 3+ (aq) reduction, and its layered morphology is exploited for Li-ion battery (LIB) applications.
