Blood sampling via peripherally inserted central catheter and venipuncture showed equivalent reliability in laboratory testing. Compared with venipuncture, blood sampling via peripherally inserted central catheter causes less pain and is safer. Blood sampling via peripherally inserted central catheter is strongly recommended for clinical use.
