FLD is highly prevalent in the general population. However, not NAFLD-only, but MAFLD-only was associated with fibrosis and higher liver stiffness independent of demographic and lifestyle factors. We believe using the novel MAFLD criteria will help improve the identification and treatment of FLD patients at risk for fibrosis.
