Gram-negative organism-based peritonitis, longer PD duration, and female sex were the independent risk factors of refractory peritonitis. Refractory peritonitis with higher WBC count, higher dialysate WBC on Day 3, and PD duration ≥5 years increased treatment failure risk and required immediate PD catheter removal. The timely identification of refractory peritonitis with high risk of treatment failure as well as timely PD catheter removal is important.
