Physician-directed microbiological testing versus syndromic multiplex PCR in gastroenteritis.

This study suggests that syndromic multiplex PCR assays are a better strategy for pathogen detection in patients with gastroenteritis than physician-directed laboratory testing based on the clinical presentation.
