Statistically significant association was observed in VEGF-rs833061 and RAGE-rs2070600 with DR in type 2 diabetic patients. While, ALR2- rs759853 didn't exhibit significant association with DR. This is the first study to report the association of candidate genes (ALR2, VEGF and RAGE) with DR in type 2 diabetes of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa population. More similar research studies are recommended with larger data sets in other ethnicities both national and international.
