An efficient and energy saving photocatalytic coupling reaction of benzenesulfonyl hydrazide with bromoacetylene has been reported. A series of alkynylsulfones were obtained in up to 98% yield. In addition, changing the base from KHCO 3 to KOAc can give the alkenylsulfone product. In addition, we tested the biological activity of some alkynylsulfone compounds and found that they exhibited excellent in vitro antioxidant activity by activating the Nrf2/ARE pathway, up to 8 fold.
