Cytology smears are a reliable source of high-quality DNA for EGFR mutation testing and should be exploited for routine molecular testing. Particularly in low resource laboratories with limited histopathology processing, the practice of molecular testing on lung cytology samples will expedite predictive testing and allow early institution of specific treatment.
