There is a high prevalence of MRSA among patients on admission at the two municipal hospitals in Dar es Salaam. The high prevalence of MRSA and the increased rates of resistance to commonly used antimicrobials among MRSA isolates call for attention to the importance of including the screening of MRSA in our hospitals setting in order to prevent further spread of MRSA strains to other patients and to the communities. Control and prevention strategies should be emphasized including decolonization.
