The SnCl 4 mediated reactions of cross conjugated aryl enynone-Co 2 (CO) 6 and dienynone-Co 2 (CO) 6 complexes afford benzocycloheptynone complexes or cycloheptenynone complexes in a thermal vinylogous Nazarov process. The rate of ring closure is strongly dependent on the ketone α-substituent.
