In a nutshell, the life cycle assessment method proved to be a valuable tool for assessing the environmental performance of Mediterranean aquaculture packaging processes. Moreover, it served to identify critical factors directly related to the EU GHG neutrality target. Accordingly, environmentally friendly decision-making/strategic management in the farmed fish packaging sector will inevitably rely on alternative energy sources, recycling of packaging materials, and use of recyclable corrugated board boxes or similar non-fossil-based materials.
