ECMO support can result in many complications despite its many benefits. Patients who require emergency laparotomy while on ECMO have lower survival-to-discharge and higher mortality at 30 days. Endoscopic gastrostomy however, can be safely performed on ECMO with little to no bleeding complications despite anticoagulation.
